Teatro Aveirense premieres a new show by Clara Andermatt

As part of Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture, Companhia Clara Andermatt and the National Institute of Circus Arts present “MUDA”, a show that merges the methodologies and languages of contemporary circus and dance, based on the acrobatic body and its techniques in an innovative show. The premiere is scheduled for May 3rd, at Teatro Aveirense, starting at 9:30 pm.

With artistic direction by Clara Andermatt, “MUDA” is a reflection on the multifaceted nature of the human condition and explores performative work in correlation with the aesthetics of silent movies. Humor intertwines with tragedy, fantasy with reality, and violence with love. The mute extension of things reveals a complex world that challenges us, like a balancing act on a knife's edge, to transcend the paradoxes of humanity and find the point of convergence that leads us to the discovery of beauty.

“MUDA” embraces innovation and diversity, firstly through the dynamics of its creative process focused on research, experimentation and different perspectives from a technical, disciplinary and methodological point of view. By involving performers from various geographic origins and artistic affiliations, the project celebrates the diversity of knowledge, cultures and practices, enriching the experience, sensitivity and knowledge of the artists involved.

This project continues a history of collaboration and complicity between the Instituto Nacional de Artes do Circo and Companhia Clara Andermatt. The creator was invited in 2019 and 2020 by INAC to teach an “Artistic Creation Laboratory”, an intense and productive work that still reverberates in the memories of the participants. In addition, there is the artistic relationship between Andermatt and Bruno Machado, current director of INAC, who had already participated as a performer in the play “Novo-Velho-Circo”, from 2015.
