Episódios da Vida Selvagem at Teatro Aveirense
Published at — 11 October 2023
On the 13th of October, Teatro Aveirense will host Episódios da Vida Selvagem, a theatre play written and performed by Mickaël de Oliveira, composed of two episodes with the same axis: a city on the verge of experiencing its last catastrophe.
The play, co-produced by Teatro Aveirense, takes place in the near future. After repeated natural catastrophes, the world's population is reduced to a minimum and its life is conditioned by extreme climatic conditions, with humanity being reorganized into small communities that have politically constituted themselves into city-states. Episódios da Vida Selvagem follows the daily life of political intervention and decision-making in one of these cities, which is faced with an urgent decision between two proposals for the survival of its community, threatened by water scarcity.
The episodes of this show are titled “Minha Morte” and “Nossa Vida”, translating different moments of thought that the city and its inhabitants are forced to develop, in a balance between individual dilemmas and collective needs. Two different perspectives, with their own questions and characters, which take the analysis of the human essence to its ultimate consequences.
Cinema session and conference complete the program
The ‘Episódios da Vida Selvagem’ program includes two more events, with a film presentation and a conference. The cinema session will take place on October 11th at 9:30 pm, at VIC // Aveiro Arts House, with the screening of the short films “Go, Deep” and “ECOS_3”, two productions conceived at the intersection of theater and other fields. The conference is scheduled for 12 pm at 6 pm, at Teatro Aveirense, and will have the theme “Fertile Futures”, being in charge of Andreia Garcia, architect and researcher, this year curator of the Portuguese representation at the International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia 2023.
Open call open to the community
As part of the presentation of Episódios da Vida selvagem at Teatro Aveirense, an open call was opened for community participation, in an initiative promoted by Colectivo 84. This is their project “Daqui Para a Frente”, developed in close connection with the young artists and audiences from partner institutions and cities of the diptych. During 5 days of training, the first stage of this work focuses on the reading and dramaturgical study of the episodes. The second stage offers trainees practical interpretation and creation/writing exercises for the stage, based on the text “Nossa Vida”, whose show (optionally) includes the trainees, participating and intervening directly in the work presented in their city, with the trainer support. The project is mainly aimed at students of professional or higher artistic education (in theater), or active agents of amateur theater.
New stage in the cycle of artistic residencies at Teatro Aveirense
With the presentation of this project, Teatro Aveirense marks another stage in its cycle of artistic residencies, which by the end of the year will receive five structures for the development of its creations, all presented in this space. The cycle began with As Areias do Imperador, by Victor de Oliveira, and Ornitópera, by Companhia de Música Teatral. After the residency of Episódios da Vida Selvagem, it will continue with Radiografia, by Nuno Aroso and João Reis, and Hansel and Gretel, by Red Cloud Teatro de Marionetas.
