The year begins at Teatro Aveirense with a varied programme

The year 2022 begins at Teatro Aveirense with a strong and diversified program, with plenty of highlights in various artistic fields. Theater, dance, music and cinema are part of the January agenda, with national and international proposals that promise to surprise the public.

DANCE
In Dance, one of the strongest moments will undoubtedly be Kind, by the Belgian company Peeping Tom. It is a fusion between dance and theater that immerses the audience in a distant and unusual universe, full of fairy tales and magic. Set in a dark forest, the action takes place in a world that precedes good and evil, a place where the earth speaks, children grow from trees and strange events arouse curiosity. Kind is staged by Gabriela Carrizo and Franck Chartier and presents itself with a great visual complexity, made up of stunning scenarios. See you on January 30th.

THEATER
Also promising is the show Profecia do Princípio do Mundo, staged by Marcos Barbosa with a text by Jacinto Lucas Pires in dialogue with writings by Father António Vieira. The story of Uaiquê is told, a boy who goes hunting and finds a book. This event in Amazonia brings out, in the simplest and most mysterious way, António Vieira. On stage on the 20th.

MUSIC
On January the 1st there’s the traditional New Year Concert, by the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, in which a selection of waltzes, polkas and marches from the Strauss family will be heard, as well as works by other composers. Under the direction of conductor António Vassalo Lourenço, there will also be a tribute to the Portuguese guitar, presenting a repertoire for this instrument with guitarist Paulo Soares, considered one of the most versatile and generous guitarists ever.
The monthly item Novas Quintas enters the scene on the 13th with a concert by João Borsch, a musician driven by eccentricity and an unshakable eclecticism, who writes and produces songs that emanate from both revivalist and megalomaniac. He comes to Teatro Aveirense to show his new and ambitious album Uma Noite Romântica with João Borsch.
Another highlight is the concert by pianist Filipe Raposo, on the 22nd, in which the musician presents his album Øcre. It is the first album in a trilogy that develops an artistic reflection on three colors: red, black and white. A sound essay that intertwines new themes by the pianist with reinterpretations of other works by Bach, Monteverdi and a traditional Azorean melody, in a mix of jazz, classical music and traditional songbook.
Finally, the presentation of the new album by Sean Riley & The Slowriders, on the 27th, should be highlighted. LIFE is an album that follows new paths, keeping its usual destiny on the horizon. There are more beats than on the previous record and fewer guitars than on any other record. There is a late-night clubbing aftertaste that is particularly nostalgic in a world where there is no night.

FAMILIES
For families, count on Amour, by Marie de Jongh, a large-format theatrical show that reflects on the fine line between lack of affection and unconditional love. A song that promotes the encounter between differences, an appeal to get rid of prejudice. Adult theater for children and children's theater for adults. The presentation scheduled for the 15th.

CINEMA
In cinema, count on the usual sessions of Os Filmes das Nossas Terças. The month of January will be filled with the films Oldboy, by Park Chan-Wook (11th), Benedetta, by Paul Verhoeven (18th) and Compartment Number 6, by Juho Kuosmanen (25th).

EXHIBITION
Until March 31 the exhibition Teatro Aveirense 140 Years can still be visited. Installed in the Salão Nobre, it reveals the history of Teatro Aveirense and the graphic and visual heritage of its archive, using a collection of materials that date back to its inauguration, in 1881, and last for several decades.
