Mortality and art in a dance show
Published at — 2 June 2025
A reflection on mortality is the motto of Maria Fonseca's dance show ATA. A proposal created with the participation of members of Aveiro's senior community, to be seen for the first time at the Aveirense Theatre on 6 June at 19h00.
In ATA Maria Fonseca addresses the way society relates to an individual and collective reality, taking into account the different perspectives on this subject, since there are cultures that celebrate death and others where it is taboo. The voice, the word and breathing are used as a portal for the body to express itself and transcend, also seeking to cultivate beauty in this ritual.
For Maria Fonseca, ‘to contemplate and care for the last act is to evolve as a society’, in a broad reflection that includes authors such as Michel de Montaigne, who in the 16th century wrote ‘to meditate on death is to meditate on freedom’.
This premiere in Aveiro includes an exclusive presentation for users of the IPSS participating in the creation of ATA, scheduled for 5 June.
