Play about the revolutionary power of a book at Teatro Aveirense

The theatre play ‘Maria Coroada’ arrives at Teatro Aveirense on March 27th. Part of the programme of Aveiro 2024 – Portuguese Capital of Culture, the play has text by João Garcia Miguel, an author who shares the direction with Amândio Anastácio.

The play 'Maria Coroada' has as its main character a young man who in 1840, in the wake of the Portuguese Civil War, arrives in a Douro village bringing with him a book that will serve as inspiration for the people to found a movement led by a healer, Maria das Neves . A true story that Amândio Anastácio and João Garcia Miguel adopted to address the ability of human beings to speak to the gods within themselves, having as its axis the courage and power of a book to transform a community.
The cast includes Carmo Teixeira, Gustavo Antunes, Manuel João Vieira, Miguel Moreira, Oceana Basílio, Rui Oliveira and Sérgio Novo.
