When dance meets literatura and thought

On 20 February, Teatro Aveirense will host a performance by Hugo Calhim Cristóvão and Joana von Mayer Trindade, two coreographers who are making a name for themselves on the national dance scene. The duo's new creation is entitled "Quando Vem a Taciturna de Limiar em Limiar o Presente Frágil" and will be presented at 9.30 pm on the Main Stage.

In this new work, Hugo Calhim Cristóvão and Joana Von Mayer Trindade promote a reflection on the idea of ruin, melancholy and nostalgia, in an archaeological exercise between thresholds (between being and non-being, desire and emptiness, life and death). An intense creation that invokes various literary and mythological sources, from the Mahavydias, Hindu goddesses of wisdom, to Western authors such as Fernando Pessoa, Camilo Pessanha, Al Berto and Paul Celan.

The show features four dancers on stage, in a choreography that is both physically and technically demanding. Sara Miguelote, Lucia Marrodan, Ethel Desdames and Marta Pieczul embody the permanent process of reflection of the authors of this piece, in a fusion of dance and dramatic expression. “Quando Vem a Taciturna de Limiar em Limiar o Presente Frágil” underwent a long development process, involving seven artistic residencies in various cities across the country, one of which was at Teatro Aveirense in November 2025.

The performance of this show is preceded by an intensive masterclass on 18 February at 6.30 pm, aimed at students and professionals in dance or the performing arts, aged 16 and over. A session to learn how dance can be a path of continuous transformation, resistance and reinvention of one's own existence, also providing an opportunity to engage with the work of Hugo Calhim Cristóvão and Joana Von Mayer Trindade, marked by intersections with philosophy and literature, with intense physicality and a unique authorial language. More information about this masterclass is available on the Teatro Aveirense website.
