Teatro Aveirense celebrates summer at Sala Aberta

On the 7th and 8th of August, the Teatro Aveirense programme goes outdoors to celebrate the summer at Sala Aberta (Open Room), in the heart of Praça da República. Two days of free open-air concerts with an unmissable line-up made up of Expresso Transatlântico and LES A LES.

The first to take to the stage of the Sala Aberta will be Expresso Transatlântico, on 7 August at 10pm. This performance marks a new edition of the Novas Quintas na Rua programme, which brings the concept of the Novas Quintas cycle, presented monthly at the Teatro Aveirense, to Praça da República. This year's hosts are Expresso Transatlântico, a band that combines the influences of Portuguese tradition with contemporary global sounds. The project by Gaspar Varela, Sebastião Varela and Rafael Matos has expanded its territories and conquered audiences in all four corners of the globe. Their journey continues as they prepare the arrival of the long-awaited successor to the album ‘Ressaca Bailada’.

On 8 August, also at 10pm, it's the turn of the LES A LES project to perform at Sala Aberta. Combining electronic music with poetry, this project is directed by two well-known figures from Aveiro's music scene, Vitor Hugo (vocals, guitar and keyboards) and Carlos Lázaro (vocals, keyboards and percussion). LES A LES unites the machine with the word in a symbiotic crossover that incorporates the Portuguese language into urban and industrial sounds.

Through Sala Aberta the Teatro Aveirense assumes the public space as an essential part of its activity, defining programming areas and aesthetics suited to this environment. In this sense, Praça da República presents itself as a natural stage, hosting projects that affirm their performance outside the theatre. It draws on the landscape, geography and dialogue with the architecture and listed heritage that surround the building to enable cultural creation and enjoyment.
