TEATRO AVEIRENSE REOPENS ITS DOORS

After the completion of restoration works, Teatro Aveirense reopens its doors on 3rd September. This marks a special occasion, not only to present a more qualified building, but also because it commemorates the start of the institution's 140th anniversary celebration. The anniversary will be celebrated with a schedule extending until March of next year, when TA commemorates its 141st anniversary.
A special moment of this reopening is the inauguration of the exhibition, “Teatro Aveirense 140 Anos” (“Teatro Aveirense - 140 Years”), a revisiting of the institution's entire history and a journey through the rich graphic and visual heritage of its archive.
In music, the first show will be performed by Ivan Lins and the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras (Philharmonic Orchestra of the Beiras), on 3rd and 4th September, followed by an intense calendar, highlighted by names such as Cuca Roseta, Rita Redshoes, Sean Riley & the Slowriders, The Gift, Pedro Abrunhosa, Rita Vian, Valter Lobo, Jessica Pina and several other well-known names.

Theatre also takes centre stage, from the debut of a project commissioned to Jorge Louraço Figueira, to a mini season of the São João National Theatre, with two pieces staged by Nuno Cardoso, including shows by Elmano Sancho, John Romão, Pedro Penim, among others.
“Kind”, a fusion of theatre and dance, is a show by the Belgian company, Peeping Tom, which presents the last moment of a trilogy started in 2014 to Aveiro, this time in a creation based on the magical and immeasurable world of childhood. The Olga Roriz Company will also be at Teatro Aveirense, with “Insónia” (“Insomnia”), a work co-produced by Teatro Aveirense. These shows are joined by creations by Circolando, Companhia Nacional de Bailado (National Dance Company), as well as other performances.

The contemporary circus has always played an important role in Teatro Aveirense's programming, and this will continue in the upcoming months, with a succession of international companies, such as Recirquel Cirque Danse (Hungary), Cirkus Cirkör (Sweden), Compañia Manolo Alcântara (Spain), Compagnie Dondavel (France) and Baccala Clown Compagnie (Switzerland), without forgetting one of the most international Portuguese artists in this area, João Paulo Santos.

The rest of the programme includes equally compelling moments, from the premiere of four short films commissioned by Teatro Aveirense to celebrate its 140th anniversary, to “Conversas do Aveirense” (“Conversations of the Aveirense”), which propose a reflection on contemporary creation with prominent figures on the national and international scene.

In addition, a new strategy has been implemented for the field of multimedia arts, with a Documentation and Research Centre, a new graphic image, a new website and a series of other ways to mark the longevity and renewal of Teatro Aveirense.
