A new take on Hamlet at Teatro Aveirense
Published at — 20 January 2026
In a four-month period in which William Shakespeare will be very much in evidence, Teatro Aveirense presents a new take on the unavoidable Hamlet. Directed by Marcos Barbosa and written by Jacinto Lucas Pires, the play will be performed on January 24 at 9:30 p.m.
This new take on Shakespeare's tragedy brings together a cast that combines experience and youth, exploring the fusion between contemporary dramaturgy and the classics. In a continuous interplay between scene memory and innovation, this Hamlet investigates themes such as time, power, and madness, supported by a demanding artistic vision and a deep connection with the audience and the community.
A show based on rigorous textual work that celebrates more than two decades of collaboration between Marcos Barbosa and Jacinto Lucas Pires. The creation of Hamlet was co-produced by Teatro Aveirense/Câmara Municipal.
After Hamlet, Teatro Aveirense will host the Shakespeare Trilogy, between February 2 and 7, a multifaceted initiative by the Teatro Praga company, featuring theater, cinema, and training.
